Pupillage, Mini-Pupillage and Work Experience

Learning Opportunities at Ventus 36 QRC:

At Ventus 36 QRC, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of barristers. Guided by our founder’s belief in public service and professional responsibility, we seek to support aspiring practitioners who are passionate about the law, mindful of their role in society, and willing to embrace innovation, adaptability and continuous learning.

We believe that the strength of a chambers depends not only on legal excellence, but also on the development of character, sound judgment and a clear sense of purpose. Through pupillage and other training opportunities, we aim to support those who aspire to become thoughtful, principled and forward-looking members of the Bar.

Pupillage:

From Aspiring Advocate to Professional Practice

Our pupillage programme is designed to offer meaningful professional exposure, careful guidance and a supportive chambers environment. We hope that pupils trained at Ventus 36 QRC will come to regard the chambers as a professional home and, where circumstances are mutually suitable, will wish to continue their professional journey as part of our chambers’ community.

Pupils are invited to take part in appropriate chambers events, professional activities and internal exchanges. We also seek, where appropriate, to introduce pupils to instructing solicitors and to help them develop the professional relationships that are important to a sustainable practice at the Bar.

Applications are considered by our Pupillage Committee, which is responsible for screening applications and conducting interviews. The Committee seeks candidates who demonstrate not only academic ability and legal potential, but also integrity, diligence, sound judgment, collegiality, intellectual curiosity and a genuine commitment to the responsibilities of practice.

Any pupillage arrangement is subject to the applicable requirements and prior approvals of the Hong Kong Bar Association and the relevant rules governing pupillage.

Mini-Pupillage or work experience placement:

A taste of Life At the Bar

In addition to pupillage opportunities, Ventus 36 QRC offers short-form educational placements for students at different stages of their development. These include two- to four-week internships for law students, as well as two-day work-experience placements for secondary-school students.

At present, the 2-day work experience opportunities are offered principally to students from the E-League, partner educational institutions and non-governmental organisations with which we work. We welcome participants from diverse backgrounds and are committed to providing opportunities that are inclusive, meaningful and supportive of long-term growth.

Through mini-pupillage, internships and work-experience placements, participants may gain an informed introduction to the work of barristers, the operation of chambers and the role of legal professionals in society. The precise content of each placement will depend on the participant’s stage of education, the availability of members and the nature of ongoing work, with due regard to confidentiality and professional obligations.
