About Us
Who we are
Ventus 36 QRC Chambers is a set of independent barristers brought together by a shared commitment to principled advocacy, practical judgment and rigorous professional standards.
Our members bring different strengths, experience and perspectives to their work. What unites us is a shared commitment to the profession, to the interests of our clients and to continuous improvement. We approach every matter with rigour while remaining attentive to practical reality; we exercise independent judgment without losing sight of the client’s circumstances; and we respond to change in law, society and business with a forward-looking approach grounded in professional responsibility.
Ventus 36 QRC was founded with a clear direction, and our founder carries responsibility for establishing and advancing the chambers. We are not, however, defined by a rigid hierarchy. We believe that leadership lies not only in seniority or title, but also in vision, responsibility and a genuine willingness to listen to different voices. The experience, insight and professional contribution of every member are valued, regardless of seniority, background or area of practice.
We respect experience and believe that a vibrant chambers should enable members to exchange views openly, learn from one another and bring their respective strengths to the work undertaken for clients. We value the traditions and professional independence of the Bar, while taking an open, collaborative and modern approach to the challenges clients face today.
We believe that a strong chambers culture depends on regular dialogue and meaningful participation. We hold regular internal activities and discussions through which members share experience, consider professional development and exchange views on matters of common concern. Where issues affect the long-term development of the chambers, shared initiatives, the way we work, our professional culture or other significant directions, we place real value on member participation and collective discussion. We seek to make decisions after different perspectives have been properly heard, with the best interests of the chambers as a whole in mind.
We also organise and take part in professional events, seminars, discussions and other outreach initiatives. Through our website, publications, professional platforms and other appropriate channels, we engage with the wider community, the profession and prospective clients. We aim to help others understand the values and work of Ventus 36 QRC, as well as the individual areas of practice and expertise of our members. These engagements also provide opportunities to share legal perspectives, respond to professional and social developments, and build meaningful connections with people from different backgrounds.
The Meanings of Ventus 36 QRC and “瑋廸”
The name “Ventus 36 QRC” was conceived by our founder. The ideas it embodies have since become a shared direction for the members who have chosen to build these chambers together: to move forward with clarity and purpose while remaining grounded in sound professional judgment, responsibility and the real interests of each client.
The English name “Ventus” is derived from the Latin word for “wind”. It evokes momentum, change and direction, and represents a constructive force: one that brings fresh perspective and new possibilities, while helping clients see a clearer path through a complex legal landscape and identify a practical and appropriate way forward.
“36 QRC” refers to 36 Queen’s Road Central. It identifies our place in Central, Hong Kong, and reminds us that, however forward-looking our outlook or innovative our methods, legal service must remain grounded in practical reality. It must respond to each client’s present circumstances, realistic options and genuine needs.
The Chinese name, “瑋廸”, reflects the spirit in which the chambers was formed. “瑋” suggests something rare and precious, reflecting the significance of barristers with shared values being able to come together, support one another and work alongside each other. “廸” conveys guidance and a new beginning, reminding us that, having chosen to begin a new chapter here, every matter should be approached with seriousness, innovation and responsibility, with a view to finding the most appropriate direction for each client.
Our emblem was also conceived by our founder. It combines the imagery of balanced scales and a bird in flight. The scales represent measured judgment and balance, reminding us that every legal opinion must take account of legal principle, justice and practical reality. The bird in flight represents the possibility of moving forward, reflecting our aim to help clients, even when facing uncertainty or different possible outcomes, understand their circumstances, see a clear direction and make responsible choices about what comes next. When viewed from a distance, the emblem also evokes the attire and collar of counsel appearing in court. It serves as a constant reminder that, when we put on our robes and enter the courtroom, we carry not only the trust placed in us by our clients, but also responsibilities owed to the court, the legal system and the profession.
For us, “Ventus 36 QRC” / “瑋廸” are not merely carefully chosen names or elements of a visual identity. They are a daily promise: to provide momentum through careful judgment and balanced thinking, and, in every new beginning, to keep each client’s true interests and long-term direction at the heart of our work.

Our Mission
At Ventus 36 QRC Chambers, we believe that legal services involve more than resolving disputes or providing legal advice. They require integrity, excellence and vision: qualities that help clients make informed, practical and responsible decisions at complex and consequential moments.
Our work is founded on three core values:
Integrity in every professional undertaking.
Excellence in every legal endeavour.
Vision for every challenge ahead.
INTEGRITY
Principled advocacy. Trusted without compromise
Integrity is our foremost commitment and the foundation of all our professional work. Legal matters often concern important rights, personal circumstances, commercial decisions, family relationships and reputation. At such times, clients need more than someone who simply supports their position. They need an independent and trusted adviser who thinks carefully, speaks candidly and acts responsibly.
We therefore begin with each client’s best achievable interests. We do not measure the value of our service solely by time spent, procedural complexity or the appearance of a single outcome. Instead, we provide clear and candid advice on legal risks, the strength of the evidence, available options, costs, timing and potential consequences, so that clients can make informed and considered decisions with a full understanding of their position.
To place clients first does not mean simply telling them what they wish to hear or pursuing a particular outcome at any cost. It means applying independent judgment, careful strategy and clear communication within the framework of the law, our professional duties and what is realistically achievable, in order to secure the solution best suited to the client’s circumstances.
We believe every client deserves to be taken seriously. Regardless of background, social standing or resources, we provide our services with fairness, respect, patience and equal rigour. We value open and dependable communication, because trust is earned not only through outcomes, but through consistent professional conduct throughout the process.
Our emblem brings together the imagery of balanced scales and a bird in flight. The scales represent measured judgment and balance, reminding us that every opinion must reconcile legal principle, justice and practical reality. We believe that the legal system continues to provide space for the pursuit of justice and for doing what is right; the value of professional advocacy lies in addressing difficult problems by the proper means, within the framework of the system.
EXCELLENCE
Rigorous preparation. Exceptional legal representation
Excellence is not simply a matter of spending more time. It means applying time, effort and professional resources where they can make the greatest difference to the client’s objectives. We value thorough preparation, precise legal research, clear analysis, effective advocacy and timely communication, seeking to provide services that are strategic, persuasive and tailored to the needs of each matter.
We also take a long-term view of every client’s circumstances. In addition to considering the legal steps available now, we assess the possible effect of different options on the client’s personal life, family, career, reputation or business. This enables clients to balance immediate priorities against their longer-term interests.
When viewed from a distance, our emblem also evokes the attire and collar associated with counsel appearing in court. It serves as a reminder that, whenever we put on our robes and enter the courtroom, we carry more than a brief or a hearing. We carry the trust placed in us by our clients, as well as the responsibilities owed to the court, the legal system and the profession. We meet that responsibility through rigorous preparation and committed advocacy.
VISION
Forward-thinking counsel for evolving challenges
We recognise that the significance of a case extends beyond an immediate dispute or a short-term result. Alongside the client’s present circumstances and the legal steps available, we consider the potential longer-term implications for the development of the law, the operation of legal institutions and society more broadly.
The bird in flight in our emblem represents the possibility of moving forward. It reflects our open, curious and forward-looking approach. We continue to learn, monitor change across law, business, society and technology, and seek to respond to clients’ evolving needs in ways that are practical and appropriate to the times.
We use artificial intelligence and other innovative legal technologies responsibly to improve the efficiency and accuracy of information management, document review, legal research and professional workflows. Technology, however, remains a tool to support professional work; it cannot replace a barrister’s judgment, experience, independence or responsibility. By using technology thoughtfully, we can devote more time and attention to legal analysis, case strategy, courtroom advocacy and the client conversations that matter most.
Ultimately, we believe that the true purpose of legal service is to help clients understand the circumstances they face, identify a realistic path forward and make responsible decisions with confidence, whatever the eventual outcome.
